A comprehensive packing list for what to wear in Glasgow
You have booked your trip to Glasgow and now it’s time to pack. But what to wear in Glasgow, whether you visit in Spring, Summer, Autumn or Winter, we have you covered.
KNOW WHAT TO EXPECT
It’s no joke that the British love to talk about the weather, and Glaswegians are no different. Expect to have rain, hail and sun in one day, but also learn to love that experience. Factor 50 suncream and a scarf? Yup, it’s that kind of weather, so here are some suggestions on what to wear in Glasgow and things to pack.
GLASGOW PACKING LIST ESSENTIALS
LAYERS
Lots of them. It gets warm (in the sun) and cold, and wet, and then warm again. So pack layers, t-shirts, hoodies, and cardigans. Lots of layers so you can easily peel them off and add them back on.
COMFORTABLE SHOES
Glasgow is perfect for walking around so invest in some comfortable shoes.
TROUSERS
Be them jeans, chinos or leggings. Whatever you like bring them. They will keep you warm, and if it’s really cold you can wear leggings under your jeans.
SUNCREAM
It may look dull, but believe me, you will get burned. Even hardened Scots get burned in summer.
TRAVEL INSURANCE
Always, always buy travel insurance. You never know. Here is a link to Money Saving Expert which explains all the jargon and has a travel insurance comparison section.
UK POWER ADAPTER
This travel adaptor works in countries such as the US, UK, EU and AU, so no need to buy a new one for each country you visit. Arrive ready to charge your phone in your hotel. This adaptor also has USB sockets.
BATTERY PACK
Don’t panic about running out of battery life for photos or online tickets. A battery pack will give you an extra couple of hours.
WATER BOTTLE
Around Glasgow city centre you will find water fountains that dispense fresh water. Here is a link to the ones provided by Scottish Water. You can also find two at Glasgow Central Railway Station.
A collapsible water bottle will save space in your bag as you can fold it up when not in use.
REUSABLE BAGS
Save the planet, and money as shops in Scotland charge for bags. Pack some reusable bags for shopping and they are handy for keeping laundry separate from clean clothes.
SUNGLASSES
Bet you never thought you’d read this. But the sun can get bright and be low in the sky here so save your eyes with some sunglasses.
RAIN JACKET
A light rain jacket is handy to pack away for those quick downpours.
UMBRELLA
A bag-sized one is handy, as you will soon learn not to leave home without some kind of umbrella.
BUG KILLER
You probably won’t need this in Glasgow itself, but if you are travelling outside the city such as Loch Lomond, midgies can be flying about. Smidge is a good one to pack to keep for when the bugs come out to play.
